Great example of a Queen Victoria Great Britain one penny (1d) "INLAND REVENUE" used fiscal stamp. Both clean and clear this specimen shows the classical side profile of Queen Victoria based on the William Wyon medallic portrait. This particular philatelic version appears more detailed than the typical Charles Heath engraving seen with the Penny Black and Penny Black stamps. The stamp shows the bust framed by a crown-topped circle containing the capitalised words “INLAND REVENUE” in a serif letterpress style font. The text initially appears off-centre upon closer inspetcion, but the initial "I" and final "E" are thankfully symmetrical. The crown itself if well detailed, and the bottom value-indication - “ONE PENNY” - is clear and highlighted by its own frame. There is a high amount of finer details in the engraving. Notably this occurs as thinly spaced lines behind the portrait, and also within the space lying outside the frame. In the latter case the pattern gives a fair amount of subtle beauty despite its gentle and otherwise plain monochrome colour. This particular stamp is slightly off-centre, with the left and bottom border being slight larger than the other two. Despite this, the entire unmarked face is contained within the perforations and thus provides us with a full view of all the detail. Some, but not all, of the gum remains - indicating use - and it has clearly been hinged in the past. The paper is somewhat thin with the face showing through in good light. The Large Anchor watermark is also clearly visible to the naked eye, and is itself well centered.
