Cat. Value (Adjusted Cat. value adjusted for condition:
A lovely lightly used example of “Two Pence” blue from plate 9, sheet position JJ. The colour is vibrant, and the intricate detail is well-preserved and mostly unblemished thanks to the light, but evident, postmark. The only downside is that the print is extremely off centre - enough that the borders of the stamps positioned to the top and left of it are partially visible on the perforations. On such a note, however, the perforations are in exceptional condition. Lastly, the gum has been heavily hinged, and the watermark is difficult to discern. For all the faults it is nonetheless aesthetically pleasing.
Light and patchy
Twopenny Blues (1858-76)
