Description:

Embossed postcard with a portrait surrounded by floristry. The message reads “Wishing You A Bright and HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” with the short poem: “Each rosy cloud at dawn shall bear, A message sweet to-day, God’s angels guard you everywhere, And bring you joy always.” from (E.M.H.) LILYWHITE. HALIFAX.” number “129.”

The reverse has a stunningly vibrant King George V vermillion penny stamp, postmarked with a clean and clear small format Rochdale circular date stamp (CDS) dating the sending to June the 15th,, 1918. The print notes that this card is from the “LILYWHITE PHOTOGRAPHIC SERIES” and “Printed in Britain” and also that “This is a Copyright Real Photograph”.

The card is addressed to “Miss Mabel Huigly, 35 Westmews [?], Suddon, Rochdale.” and has the simple message “Just to wish yoy many happy returns of the day. From gradma[?]”.
