Cat. Value (Adjusted Cat. value adjusted for condition:
Very poor condition Penny Red from plate 111, position EE. Significant faults include broken perforations, poor colour and superficial marks, and lastly discolour gum and perforations. The texture of the stamp itself is poor and best described as “dry”. Clear watermark and plate number, with the latter being written on the reverse. The postmark is a fairly clean and clear two-part oval barred numeral cancel. The upper half has two letters which appear to be “E.S” and the office number appears to be 2. This is something I will investigate at a later date.
Two-part oval barred numeral cancel: E.S / 2
Large Crown (Standard)
