Description:

Penny Red from plate 78, position OG. Fairly well centred with one good margin on the top side. Unfortunately it has significant perforation faults - particularly along the lower edge. The face also has markings and damage. The gum is clean with a clear watermark, plus a previous owner has written down the plate number. Strangely enough the plate number on the righthand side appears ot have an inverted 8 - but this will require further investigation.± The postmark appears to be an oval barred numeral cancel - perhaps double or triple stamped - which would indicate an England and Wales office. Unfortunately no office number can be made out, so little else can be known.
