Not the best example of a plate 72, position AH, Penny Red there has ever been. The stamp itself is fairly well centred with minimal blemishes and great perforations, but it is spoilt by a heavy postmark. The gum is clean and the watermark clear. it also includes a helpful annotation concerning the plate number from a previous owner. The postmark itself is extremely heavy and obscured most of the face. The only thing that can be certain is that it is of an oval shape - thus indicating it’s use within England and Wales. Unfortunately since it appears to have been stamped excessively any other detail - such as the Office number - cannot be ascertained.
Oval barred numeral cancel: unknown
Large Crown (Standard)
