Description:

Very heavily offset plate 96, position PA, Penny Red. Top edge - including text - obliterated by perforations (instead we get the top edge of the stamp below). Otherwise a good example with a clean and detailed face. The reverse shows significant signs of ageing but this may perhaps be whatever paper it came off of. The watermark is clear, and the plate number has been written down.

The postmark is of the barred numeral type, however it appears double stamped and both have failed to print the office number. We are therefore unable to ascertain its source.
