The “Christmas” word is snow-covered. This die design has particularly long use over many years, however thankfully the datestamp helps place it in the catalogues. Via the Postmark Society Catalogue of Slogan Postmarks of the UK vol. 3, this is given the number (General Slogan; GS) 3534 and was used from the the 1st to the 20th of December, 1883. This version would have been stamped on it’s last official date of use, and probably the last posting date in time for Christmas.
